The Cross and the Switchblade
1-2 June 7.45pm
1950's New York is a city of gangs, drugs and violence - certainly no place for a friendless Puerto Rican kid. But Nicky Cruz is no ordinary boy and when he’s initiated into the ranks of a vicious gang, he makes his own mark in the underworld. What will happen when he meets the preacher who is determined to help him? This pulsating play toured to huge acclaim in 2000 and is now revived with a brand new cast.

The exhibition includes more than 70 watercolours made on the voyages to Virginia in the 1580s. These images are the earliest visual record by an Englishman of the flora, fauna and people of America. The exhibition also features a remarkable selection of scientific instruments, maps, portraits and prints. La Bouche du Roi
22 March – 13 May 2007 (Room 35)
La Bouche du Roi was completed in 2005 by Romuald Hazoumé, an artist from Bénin, West Africa. The work comprises over 300 masks (made from petrol cans) and other objects arranged to recall the 18th-century print of the British slave ship, the Brookes. A recitation of West African names, the terrible sounds of a slave ship, and a video of black market petrol-runners in modern Bénin combine to make this a highly thought-provoking work of art. Admission free
