Garden Squares

Take a stroll through Bloomsbury and you’ll never be far from a glorious Georgian garden square. There are ten garden squares in all, each nestled among the elegant period properties that line our leafy streets. Some, like Russell Square, are open to the public, while others, such as Bedford Square, are private spaces.

The Bedford Estates are proud to be custodians of some of these historic green spaces. Our dedicated team of gardeners continue to cherish these havens of nature, conserving their heritage and ensuring they give pleasure to visitors throughout the year.

Key Holder Scheme

Our Bedford Square Garden key holder scheme is open for applications from Bloomsbury residents and businesses (with a WC1 postcode) for a modest annual fee*.  

For residents, the current charge is £80 plus VAT. Charges for business users vary but start from £500 plus VAT.

*subscriptions run from March to March and are not pro-rated.

Venue Hire

Bedford Square Garden and Montague Street Garden both present unique spaces for a corporate event or an intimate wedding. 

Bedford Square Garden has room for 600 guests while Montague Street Garden can accommodate 300 guests. NB: Guest numbers must adhere to social distancing rules.

Rates are £5,000 per day in peak season reducing to £3,500 in the quieter months.  Set up and derig days are charged at 50% of these fees.

Filming Locations

With its elegant listed buildings and pretty gardens, Bloomsbury is wonderfully photogenic. Surrounded by Georgian houses, Bedford Square Garden and Montague Street Garden have been used as a location for fashion shoots, TV programmes and feature films.

We grant permission to film here subject to certain conditions and consider each request on an individual basis.
